The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) describes the process through which adults enter or complete the entrance into the Catholic Church. The RCIA is “a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful.” Through reading, prayer, instruction, and reflective discussion, participants prepare for reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation), along with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, at the Easter Vigil Mass. Beginning in September, participants meet on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9 PM at the Staff Center. During the Lenten season, classes are held on Sunday mornings following the Liturgy of the Word during the 9:30 AM Mass. Following Easter, classes resume on Thursday evenings until the completion of the course. The RCIA process involves three steps:
1) Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens A catechumen is a person preparing and being instructed in the Catholic Faith for initiation
2) Election, Enrollment of Names Occurs on Sundays during Lent
3) Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation Baptism (if necessary), Confirmation, Reconciliation (a Sacrament of Healing), and Communion are celebrated during the Easter Vigil.
